Region I and JSHS Project Submission

Requirements to Submit for Each Project

In addition to student registration, abstract and other necessary forms students must submit a video presentation and pictures of the board.

There are three options for presentations. Please be sure to read entirely and gain an understanding of what each option entails. More importantly, the teacher has the last say in how the presentation should be submitted so please consult with them before choosing an option.

  1. Tri-fold board - Submit up to a 7 minute video presentation along with 4 pictures of the tri-fold board. The 4 pictures include one picture of the entire board and one closer picture of each of the 3 panels.

  2. Poster – In this sense, a poster is considered a flat board that is made using software and printed professionally.

    1. If using the printed version of a board - Submit up to a 7 minute video presentation along with up to 4 pictures. The pictures should consist of 1 picture of the entire poster and up to 3 pictures of the poster. These 3 pictures should be clear for judge’s review and should be snap shots of pieces of the poster.

    2. If presenting a voice over of the poster using the software, - Submit up to a 7 minute video. Please make sure all parts of the poster are visited and discussed. There should also be at least one shot of the entire poster in the video.

  3. PowerPoint presentation - A voice over on each slide is suggested. Submit up to a 7 minute video. Please do not stand in front of a PowerPoint presentation to video the findings unless you can GUARANTEE a clear visual of the PowerPoint. Usually videoing these types of presentations will skew colors.

What to Include in Each Video

New judging rubrics have been developed for the 2021 virtual science fair. It is suggested that you follow the “students should include column” when making the video. These rubrics are provided on the website and on the following pages. *Please note* - videos that are longer than they should be will negatively affect the score. There is no negative effect for shorter videos. There are two rubrics.

  1. The one titled ENGINEERING projects is for the engineering category ONLY

  2. The one titled EXPERIMENTAL project is for all other categories.

How to Submit Videos and Pictures

Students/parents – Videos can be recorded at home and uploaded to the Region I server. However, your teacher may have special instructions and you should check with them before any submissions are made.

Teachers – You may need to make a shared google drive between each student, make a google classroom assignment, have students email you (may be difficult). Or it may be easier to have the students (especially younger) present in class and video them in class. Just make sure to provide your instruction clearly and set a due date that provides enough time for you to submit by the deadlines.

To submit – We are using OneDrive to submit all videos. Each student video and all pictures should be submitted with the following label organization.

Below is how you should label your submissions.

  • Video – Student first and last name_ video_category

    • Example for video – Joe Brown _video_biochemistry

  • Pictures – Student first and last name_picture#

    • Example for pictures – Joe Brown _picture1

    • Example for pictures – Joe Brown _picture2

    • Example for pictures – Joe Brown _picture3

    • Example for pictures – Joe Brown _picture4
